Welcome on my website!

I am Swiss National Science Foundation Professor at the University of Lucerne (Switzerland), where my primary work focuses on the development and application of empirical research and evaluation methods, including quantitative, qualitative and mixed-approach techniques, data analytics and questions of causal inference. The largest part of my work concentrates on the class of Configurational Comparative Methods (CCMs), particularly Combinational Regularity Analysis (CORA), Coincidence Analysis (CNA) and Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA). I also carry out consultancy projects on the use of CCMs for individual researchers, applied research teams and international organizations.

In addition, I have a strong interest in meta-scientific topics such as the Replication Crisis in science and research ethics. Last but not least, I occupy myself with possibilities to improve the teaching of empirical research methods and data analytics at all levels of higher education, using computational innovations and graphical tools. My work is thus highly interdisciplinary. It has made its way into many widely-read periodicals such the American Journal of Evaluation, BMC Medical Research MethodologyComparative Political Studies, Field Methods, IEEE AccessImplementation SciencePLOS ONEPolitical AnalysisSociological Methodology and Sociological Methods & Research.
